StringScales 2.0 Is Here!

Built carefully thanks to your feedback - with a ton of new features 🎉

Good news, everyone!

After months of work, StringScales 2.0 is finally live! This is the biggest update we’ve ever released, and it’s all thanks to your feedback. Every feature, every tweak, and every improvement comes directly from what you, the community, have asked for.

But this is just the beginning. We’re also launching a Discord community where you can challenge yourself with scale exercises, discuss music theory, give feedback, and more. More on that later — first, let’s talk about what’s new in StringScales 2.0 and why this is the best version yet.

The Biggest New Feature: The Chord Progression Player

Ever tried practicing scales but felt lost without a musical context? That’s exactly what we’ve solved with the new Chord Progression Player.

  • ✅ Practice improvisation in context — no more noodling aimlessly!
  • ✅ Real-time chord notes indication — know exactly which chord tones are playing.
  • ✅ Chord progressions are generated based on your selected scale — so a major scale will give you one set of progressions, while a Phrygian or Hungarian minor scale will give you something completely different.
  • ✅ Works for exotic scales too — yes, you can now hear and play over Egyptian, Neapolitan, and other rarely used scales in actual harmonic context.

This is a game-changer if you want to move beyond just playing scales up and down and start making real music with them. The goal? Help you turn scales into solos and give you a tool that makes learning harmonic relationships second nature.

A More Polished UI

StringScales now looks and feels smoother than ever. We spent time refining the user experience so that everything is faster, clearer, and more intuitive.

  • Smoother navigation between scales, tunings, and settings.
  • Better readability — no more straining to figure out what’s what.
  • Subtle animations to make transitions feel natural.

It’s all about making sure you can focus 100% on playing and learning, not figuring out how the tool works.

New Features for Power Users

Your Settings Are Now Saved

Before, if you refreshed the page or came back later, you had to redo all your settings. Not anymore! Logged-in users now have their preferences saved automatically, so your instrument fretboard, tunings, and other settings stay just as you left them.

New Color Mode: See the Same Notes Instantly

Ever struggled to quickly spot where all the same notes are across the fretboard? The new color mode lets you highlight all instances of the same note, making it easier to recognize patterns, shapes, and interval relationships.

See Diatonic Chords in a Scale at a Glance

No more guessing! Now, when you select a scale, you’ll instantly see its diatonic chords. This means you can see the harmonized chords of the scale without needing to go look them up separately. Super useful for songwriting and improvisation.

Light/Dark Mode Switch

Because let’s be honest — sometimes you need dark mode for late-night practice sessions, and sometimes you want light mode for clarity. Now, you can switch between them easily.

What’s Next for StringScales?

This update is just the beginning. Here’s what’s coming next:

More Advanced Chord Progression Generator

The current chord progression feature is great, but we want to take it to the next level. Expect better control over progressions, more harmonic options, and deeper customization.

Exercise Generator with Tabs & Traditional Notation

Imagine scale drills generated just for you, with both tablature and standard notation. This will be perfect for structured practice sessions that help you master scales faster than ever.

Create-Your-Own Scale

What if you could build your own scale and visualize it instantly? That’s exactly what we’re working on! Define custom scales, see them on the fretboard, and hear how they sound.

Practice Tools (Metronome, etc.)

Because timing is everything, we’re adding a built-in metronome to help you develop speed, rhythm, and precision without needing a separate app.

👀 Final Thoughts

This is just the start of what’s coming for StringScales 2.0. Your feedback and ideas have driven everything in this update, and they’ll continue shaping what comes next.

If you haven’t checked out the new version yet, now’s the time.

And if you want to be part of something from the beginning, join the Discord community and help us grow.

Let’s keep making learning scales, improvisation, and music theory more powerful and fun.

See you inside! 🎸🔥
